Baseball Recap: Goddard Wins Going Away Against Arkansas City

For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last five times Goddard and Arkansas City have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Thursday. The Lions were the clear victors by a 9-1 margin over the Bulldogs. The match marked the Lions' most dominant win of the season.

Landon Kohlhorst spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up nine Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Goddard is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-15 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Goddard got a big performance out of Eastyn Vieyra, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those three runs gave Vieyra a new career-high. Lincoln Jensen was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Goddard was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .448. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Goddard's victory bumped their record up to 7-15. As for Arkansas City, their loss was their ninth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-18.

Goddard will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Bulldogs: the pair will be back at it again later today.
