Basketball Game Preview: Maryvale Prep Matador vs. North Phoenix Preparatory Academy Gladiators

The Maryvale Prep Matador will face off against the North Phoenix Preparatory Academy Gladiators at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Maryvale Prep is coming into the game on a four-game losing streak.

Last Tuesday, Maryvale Prep had to suffer through a 73-35 loss at the hands of Anthem Prep. While losing is never fun, the Matador can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 331st, while the Eagles are ranked 144th).

Meanwhile, you're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter, and that's exactly how it played out for North Phoenix Preparatory Academy on Thursday. They put the hurt on Phoenix Day School for the Deaf with a sharp 51-27 win. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Gladiators had established a 20 point advantage.

North Phoenix Preparatory Academy's victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-8. As for Maryvale Prep, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-11.

Everything came up roses for Maryvale Prep against North Phoenix Preparatory Academy in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, as the squad secured a 53-26 win.
