Basketball Recap: Paramus Catholic Takes a Loss

Paramus Catholic was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a blow against the West Orange Mountaineers, falling 67-39. While losing is never fun, the Paladins can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey basketball rankings (they are ranked 99th, while the Mountaineers are ranked 14th).

West Orange's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Rhyan Watt led the charge by putting up 21 points along with five assists and four steals. Watt is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Anaya Karriem, who dropped a triple-double on 16 points, 14 boards, and ten steals.

Paramus Catholic's loss dropped their record down to 4-4. As for West Orange, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season.

Paramus Catholic will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Mount St. Mary Academy at 7:00 p.m. West Orange has already played their next contest (against Eastside), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
