Basketball Recap: Fountain Hills' Win on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to 13

Fountain Hills had already won 12 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 34.8 points) and they went ahead and made it 13 on Thursday. They claimed a resounding 53-18 victory over the Rancho Solano Prep Mustangs. Given the Falcons' advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 48th, while the Mustangs are ranked 127th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Fountain Hills was led to victory by Seilah Smith and Kynzi Schaunaman. Smith dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten assists, while Schaunaman went 7 for 11 en route to 17 points along with six rebounds and four steals. What's more, Smith also posted a 78% field goal percentage, which is the highest she's posted since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Taleigha Bonnaha, who posted a point and five steals.

They weren't the only ones working in the assist department: Fountain Hills was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rancho Solano Prep only racked up three assists.

Despite the loss, Rancho Solano Prep still got an impressive performance from Nenah Brown, who made all 5 shots she took racking up 10 points. Brown is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as she's posted one of at least 45% in the last three games she's played.

Fountain Hills pushed their record up to 22-5 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 15.3 points over those games. As for Rancho Solano Prep, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 14-10 record this season.

Looking ahead, it'll be a Battle of the Birds when the Falcons duke it out with the Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Phoenix Country Day will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Fountain Hills surely won't give up without a fight. Rancho Solano Prep does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
