Basketball Recap: Kiko Pena Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat North Fork

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Aspen, Roaring Fork was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They took down the North Fork Miners 50-34. Given the Rams' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 110th, while the Miners are ranked 229th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Roaring Fork's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kiko Pena led the charge by dropping a double-double on 12 points and 12 boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Lucas Carballeira, who posted 16 points and seven rebounds.

North Fork lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Angel Montes, who had six points. Another player making a difference was Gabe Garcia, who put up six points and five boards.

Roaring Fork is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.4 points per game. As for North Fork, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 7-8 record.

Roaring Fork wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 54-53 loss against Coal Ridge on the 4th. North Fork has also already played their next game (against Cedaredge), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
