Softball Game Preview: James Monroe Yellow Jackets vs. Caroline Cavaliers

James Monroe is 0-9 against Caroline since April of 2018 but things could change on Thursday. The Yellow Jackets will look to defend their home field against the Cavaliers at 5:00 p.m. James Monroe has given up an average of 10.5 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

James Monroe came up short against Eastern View on Tuesday, falling 16-2. The Yellow Jackets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Caroline, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They came out on top against Courtland by a score of 6-3 on Tuesday. The victory continues a trend for the Cavaliers in their matchups with the Cougars: they've now won three in a row.

Jaidyn Tingen made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024.

Tingen wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Dezi McDowney, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Caroline pushed their record up to 10-2 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for James Monroe, their loss dropped their record down to 3-9.
