The 6-foot-4, 235-pound defensive end from Alonso (Tampa, Fla.) announced his intention to play for the Hurricanes this afternoon.

Chickillo saw his stock sore after a strong performance at the U.S. Army National Combine, where he displayed his outstanding pass rushing ability.

His choice to play at Miami means that he’ll become a third-generation Hurricane, as both his father and grandfather played at Miami.

Despite missing five games in 2009 due to a collarbone injury, Chickillo was still able to compile 12.5 sacks.

He kicked off the 2010 season on a high note, recording eight tackles, four deflected passes and one interception in a preseason game against Freedom (Tampa, Fla.).

Chickillo joins a recruiting class that already features quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, receiver Phillip Dorsett and defensive back Albert Louis-Jean.
