Basketball Recap: Dj Hawkins' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Pomona over Golden

Pomona lost against Golden back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Pomona Panthers took a 72-53 bruising from the Golden Demons. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 237th, while the Demons are ranked 117th).

Pomona's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dj Hawkins, who posted 19 points. Hawkins' evening made it 16 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Morine, who scored nine points and five steals.

Leif Hansen continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Golden, dropping a double-double on 39 points and 17 boards. Hansen is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 18 or more in the last three games he's played. Dylan Paulson was another key player, putting up eight points and six rebounds.

Pomona dropped their record down to 6-8 with the loss, which was their third straight at home. As for Golden, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season.

Pomona wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 70-62 defeat against Wheat Ridge on the 24th. Golden has also already played their next game, a 55-53 loss against Evergreen on the 24th.
