Basketball Recap: JR Gillespie (HS)'s Big Game Can't Quite Lead Calvary Christian Academy over Aquinas Academy

After flying high against Faith Baptist School last Friday, Calvary Christian Academy came back down to earth. The Calvary Christian Academy LIONS took a 51-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Aquinas Academy Crusaders on Tuesday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the LIONS came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Delaware basketball rankings (they are ranked 40th, while the Crusaders are ranked 166th).

Several LIONS players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was JR Gillespie (HS), who went 6 for 14 en route to 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sean Sensenig (HS), who went 5 of 12 on his way to 15 points.

With the loss, Calvary Christian Academy broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 4-6. As for Aquinas Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season.

Calvary Christian Academy will challenge Greenwood Mennonite at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Aquinas Academy, they will take on Avon Grove Charter at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
