Baseball Game Preview: Herrin Tigers vs. Marion Wildcats

Herrin is 0-10 against Marion since May of 2018 but things could change on Monday. The Tigers will venture away from home to face off against the Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Herrin proved they can win big on Saturday (they won by eight) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They won by a run and slipped past Carbondale 2-1.

Herrin saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carter McCree, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Meanwhile, Marion had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Tuesday. They walked away with a 6-2 win over the Orphans. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 23, 2024, but that streak is no more.

Marion's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 19-6. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Herrin, their victory bumped their record up to 10-13.

Herrin might still be hurting after the 12-2 defeat they got from Marion in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
