Softball Game Preview: Coastal Christian Conquerors vs. University Trojans

The Coastal Christian Conquerors are taking a road trip to face off against the University Trojans on Saturday. Coastal Christian will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.

Coastal Christian is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They walked away with a 5-2 victory over Faith Baptist.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for University, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. Everything went their way against Monrovia on Thursday as they made off with a 21-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won 11 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Carson Cruz made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

In other batting news, Sophia Weinberg and Gidget Smith did most of the damage at the plate: Weinberg went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI, while Smith went 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and one double. That's the most hits Weinberg has posted since back in March. Jessica Hu was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBI.

University always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .590. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Monrovia only posted an OBP of .304.

Coastal Christian pushed their record up to 11-2 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.8 runs over those games. As for University, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-10 record this season.
