Softball Preview: Lower Lake Trojans vs. Clear Lake Cardinals

Lower Lake is 0-10 against Clear Lake since April of 2019 but things could change on Tuesday. The Trojans will venture away from home to take on the Cardinals at 4:00 p.m. Lower Lake will be strutting in after a victory while Clear Lake will be coming in after a defeat.

Lower Lake barely beat Upper Lake the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Trojans never let the Cougars get on the board and left with a 12-0 win on Friday. The Trojans haven't had any issues with the Cougars recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Mariah Bal made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Bal was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Heidi Ortega, who scored three runs and stole four bases while going 1-for-4. She also brought in an RBI, marking her first of the season. Leanna Ortega was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, Clear Lake didn't have quite enough to beat Kelseyville on Friday and fell 5-3. The Cardinals have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
