NorthWood is 2-8 against Northridge since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Panthers will welcome the Raiders at 5:30 p.m. NorthWood is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.3 runs per game this season.
On Monday, NorthWood came up short against Concord and fell 13-9.
Chloe Davis was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 5.1 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one RBI.
In other batting news, NorthWood got a massive performance out of Payton Sears, who fired off two home runs and five RBI while going 2-for-5. Those home runs marked the first that Sears has launched this season. Megan Yoder was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with four stolen bases, four runs, and one triple.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Northridge, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They blew past Goshen 13-3 on Monday. The game marked the Raiders' most dominant victory of the season so far.
Like NorthWood, Northridge also got a great game from a two-way player: Addi Knisley. She pitched five innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits. Knisley was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Rielyn Goodwin, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Rachel Humbarger, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and three runs.
Northridge kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive contests.
NorthWood's loss dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Northridge, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-3.
Wednesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. NorthWood has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .465. However, it's not like Northridge struggles in that department as they've averaged .448. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
NorthWood was able to grind out a solid victory over Northridge in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, winning 6-2. Do the Panthers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Raiders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
