The Gretna East Griffins will head out on the road to face off against the Skutt Catholic SkyHawks at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Gretna East's pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so Skutt Catholic's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Gretna East is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nebraska's top teams: Norris, who was ranked tenth at the time (Gretna East was ranked 24th). The Griffins had just enough and edged out the Titans 2-0. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Griffins.

Not much got past Trevor Cox, who gave up just a hit and racked up 12 Ks to keep Norris off the board. Cox has become a key player for Gretna East: the team is undefeated when he allows at most three hits, but 6-7 otherwise.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Nolan Green, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double.
Skutt Catholic came out on top against Mount Michael Benedictine on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run second inning. The SkyHawks blew past the Knights 9-2. The SkyHawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matches by seven runs or more this season.
Skutt Catholic also got a great performance from Bubba Day as he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Day has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Jace Ziola and Luke Van Dyke did most of the damage at the plate: Ziola went 2-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Van Dyke went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Dylan Van Dyke was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Skutt Catholic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mount Michael Benedictine only posted an OBP of .367.
Gretna East's record now sits at 9-7. As for Skutt Catholic, their record is now 14-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Gretna East has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Skutt Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Gretna East came up short against Skutt Catholic in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, falling 3-0. Can the Griffins avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
