Basketball Game Preview: Fairbury Jeffs vs. Milford Eagles + Official Tickets

Fairbury is 2-8 against Milford since December of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Jeffs will welcome the Eagles at 6:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Fairbury will bounce into Friday's matchup after beating Superior, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Jeffs came out on top against the Wildcats by a score of 45-35 on Tuesday.

Evelyn Timmons was a one-woman wrecking crew as she dropped a double-double with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Her evening made it five games in a row in which she has scored at least 17 points. Another player making a difference was Micah Friesen, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and 15 boards.

Fairbury smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Superior only pulled down ten offensive rebounds.

Meanwhile, Milford put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They walked away with a 54-41 win over Thayer Central.

Fairbury better focus on containing Shayla Rautenberg and Ashlynn Miller as the pair were huge in Milford's win. Rautenberg dropped a double-double with 19 points and 17 rebounds, while Miller shot 47% from the field en route to 19 points. Rautenberg is crushing it when it comes to boards: she's pulled down at least 17 every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Abby Crabtree, who posted seven points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Milford's victory bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Fairbury, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Fairbury has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 34 boards per game. However, it's not like Milford struggles in that department as they've been averaging 39.7 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.

Fairbury came up short against Milford when the teams last played back in December of 2023, falling 40-29. Can the Jeffs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
