It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Winchester Community ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They had just enough and edged out the Knightstown Panthers 10-7. The score was all tied up 7-7 at the break, but the Golden Falcons were the better team in the second half.
Caleb Hummel had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 179 yards. He also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, making three total tackles and defending two passes.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Winchester Community was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 233 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Knightstown only rushed for 67 rushing yards.
Defeat or not, Knightstown got some senior leadership from Gage Broady and Jameson Crawford. Broady picked up 94 receiving yards and one score, while Crawford rushed for 67 yards. Broady got the majority of those receiving yards when he pulled down a pass and took off for a gain of 71 yards.
Winchester Community has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. The victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 13 points this season. As for Knightstown, their loss dropped their record down to 1-1.
