Baseball Game Preview: Middletown South Eagles vs. Cranford Cougars

The Middletown South Eagles will venture away from home to challenge the Cranford Cougars at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Last Thursday, Middletown South sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-7 victory over Wall Township. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Eagles.

Meanwhile, Cranford entered their tilt with Bayonne on Tuesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against the Bees.

Cranford's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Brayden Fry, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Cranford's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-9. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Middletown South, the victory got them back to even at 10-10.

Middletown South might still be hurting after the 10-4 loss they got from Cranford in their previous meeting back in May of 2023. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
