Recap: Southmoreland Scotties vs. Uniontown Red Raiders
The Southmoreland Scotties pushed their score all the way to 56 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They suffered a tough 78-56 loss at the hands of Uniontown. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Southmoreland in their matchups with Uniontown: they've now lost eight in a row.
Despite the defeat, Southmoreland saw an underclassman step up: Noah Felentzer scored 23 points. Felentzer has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ty Whoric, who scored seven points.
Uniontown's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was K'Adrian McLee, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. McLee has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last ten times he's played. Another player making a difference was Jamire Braxton, who scored 17 points along with four steals.
Southmoreland has not been sharp recently as the team's lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 14-6 record this season. As for Uniontown, their win bumped their record up to 16-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Southmoreland will take on Laurel Highlands at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Southmoreland is facing Laurel Highlands at the right time seeing as Laurel Highlands is stuck on a 15-game losing streak. As for Uniontown, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on Elizabeth Forward at 7:30 p.m. on February 6th. Elizabeth Forward will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Uniontown surely won't give up without a fight.
