The Dawson Bulldogs will venture away from home to take on the West Trojans at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Dawson has given up an average of 8.5 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
Dawson is headed into Tuesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Saturday. They fell 14-11 to Ennis. Even though they lost, the Bulldogs' still made a splash at the plate and bumped their average scoring up to 6.4 runs per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).
Kaylee Payne stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Chloe Boatright, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Even though they lost, Dawson was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .381. This was only their first loss (out of three games) when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, West posted their closest win since April 10, 2024 on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out Ennis 2-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Trojans.
West saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Keegan Mayhue, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Dawson's loss dropped their record down to 3-7. As for West, their record is now 6-9-1.
Dawson's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's game. Dawson has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for West, though, as they've been averaging only 0.8 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Dawson continue to outrun the ball?
Dawson might still be hurting after the 11-0 defeat they got from West in their previous matchup on Saturday. Can Dawson avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
