            Basketball Recap: Woodlawn Cardinals vs. Edwards County Lions        
        
		
        
        
            It was a proper cat-fight when  Woodlawn duked it out withEdwards County on Saturday. The Woodlawn Cardinals fell  62-53 to the Edwards County Lions. While losing is never fun, the Cardinals can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage  in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings  (they are ranked 308th, while the Lions are ranked 121st).

 Woodlawn's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was   Rylie Hockett, who  went 5 of 10  en route to 15  points along with seven  boards and five  steals. Hockett is  on a roll when it comes to  steals, as she's  now  grabbed two or more in the last ten games she's  played. The team also got some help courtesy of  Sophia Skinner, who  posted 14 points and six  rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for Woodlawn and  nudges their season record down to 9-7. As for Edwards County, the  victory was  the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-1.
 Woodlawn will have a little extra prep time after the  loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Altamont at 2:00  p.m.  on January 11, 2025. Edwards County will also get a bit of a break before their next  matchup: they'll face off against Carmi-White County at 7:30  p.m.  on January 9, 2025.
