Basketball Recap: Arapahoe Comes Up Short

After flying high against Hitchcock County last Saturday, Arapahoe came back down to earth. The Arapahoe Warriors took a 47-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cambridge Trojans. The match was a 26-26 toss-up at halftime, but the Warriors couldn't quite close it out.

When it comes to explaining why Arapahoe lost on Tuesday, don't look at Cadence Carpenter. Despite the final result, she went 6-for-11 on her way to 13 points. Those 13 points gave Carpenter a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sawyer Shafer, who posted 11 points.

Mallory Springer was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with 12 points and 21 rebounds for Cambridge. Springer is becoming a predictor of Cambridge's success: when she posts at least eight boards the team is 12-5 (and 0-4 when she doesn't). Aspen Webb was another key player, putting up 12 points and five rebounds.

Arapahoe's loss dropped their record down to 14-9. As for Cambridge, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-9 record this season.

Arapahoe has already played their next game, a 44-29 win against Bertrand on the 14th. As for Cambridge, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 53-33 defeat against Alma on the 14th.
