Softball Game Preview: Academy of Our Lady of Peace Pilots vs. El Capitan Vaqueros

The Academy of Our Lady of Peace Pilots will head out on the road to square off against the El Capitan Vaqueros at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Academy of Our Lady of Peace's hitters haven't had much luck over their past six contests, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Academy of Our Lady of Peace lost 10-1 to Christian on Thursday.

Alayna Ma'Ake was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

Meanwhile, El Capitan hadn't done well against Valhalla recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Vaqueros came out on top against the Norsemen by a score of 5-2. The victory continues a trend for the Vaqueros in their matchups with the Norsemen: they've now won three in a row.

Makenna Burton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, Isabella Farris was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Sofia Simone was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.

El Capitan kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 4-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

El Capitan pushed their record up to 11-13 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Academy of Our Lady of Peace, their loss dropped their record down to 6-16.

Academy of Our Lady of Peace skirted past El Capitan 7-6 when the teams last played back in March of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pilots since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
