Football Recap: Donna Redskins vs. Mercedes Tigers
Donna lost against Mercedes back in September of 2017, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Donna Redskins lost 38-17 to the Mercedes Tigers. The loss continues a trend for the Redskins in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now lost three in a row.
Several Redskins players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Joel Duran, who rushed for 91 yards on only six carries. Duran got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run and that went for an incredible 76 yards.
Robert Sanchez was nothing short of spectacular for Mercedes: he rushed for 114 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries. Baltazar Fuentes also helped out with an impressive 104 receiving yards.
Donna's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Mercedes, the win also got them back to even at 1-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Donna will take on Weslaco East at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Mercedes, they will hit the road for the first time this season to take on Rowe at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
