Soccer Game Preview: South vs. Mira Costa

The South Spartans are taking a road trip to challenge the Mira Costa Mustangs at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: South has struggled recently with three defeats in a row, while Mira Costa will arrive with 11 straight victories.

South fell victim to El Segundo and their airtight defense on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 1-0. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 231st, while the Eagles are ranked ninth).

Meanwhile, Mira Costa won against El Toro back in December of 2024 with two goals and they decided to stick to that goal total again last Tuesday. Mira Costa came out on top in a nail-biter against Palos Verdes, sneaking past 2-1. That's two games straight that the Mustangs have won by just one goal.

Mira Costa's win bumped their record up to 15-1. As for South, they now have a losing record at 6-7.

South came up short against Mira Costa in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, falling 3-1. Can South avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
