Football Recap: Westbury Huskies vs. Sharpstown Apollos
Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Westbury). They simply couldn't be stopped on Saturday as they easily beat the Sharpstown Apollos 55-0. Considering the Huskies have won three contests by more than 50 points this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Westbury was led to victory by Jefferson Rivas Hernandez and David Baines. Rivas Hernandez gained 164 total yards and four touchdowns, while Baines rushed for 118 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries. Rivas Hernandez also punched in two rushing touchdowns, which is notable because Westbury is undefeated when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns, but 2-4 otherwise. Dareus Hubbard handled things on the ground, rushing for 80 yards and a rushing touchdown.
Westbury was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 327 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in September of 2023.
Westbury didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Da'Zhon Williams. Jeremiah Shelley was another major factor on D, picking up two sacks and making six total tackles (3.0 for loss).
The victory was the third in a row for Westbury, bringing their record for this year to 5-4. As for Sharpstown, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-6.
Westbury will head out to challenge Galena Park at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Westbury's defense has only allowed 9.3 points per game this season, so Galena Park's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Sharpstown, they will be playing at home against Austin at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Sharpstown is facing Austin at the right time seeing as Austin is stuck on a six-game losing streak.
