Softball Recap: River Mill Jaguars vs. Chatham Charter Knights

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but River Mill ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Chatham Charter Knights 6-5. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last three times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Lexi Melton made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over nine innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Summer Basden was incredible, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Pryce Lovette, who scored a run while going 3-for-5.

River Mill now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Chatham Charter, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-5 record this season.

River Mill will be playing at home against Ascend Leadership at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Chatham Charter, they will head out on the road to challenge North Moore at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
