Basketball Recap: Fernley Finds Playoff Glory Versus North Valleys

Fernley had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They walked away with a 61-50 victory over the North Valleys Panthers on Friday. This was a revenge game for the Vaqueros: when they faced off against the Panthers back in January, they had to take a 51-48 loss.

It was another big night for Taylor Tollestrup, who dropped a double-double with 28 points and 13 rebounds. Those 28 points gave her a new career-high. Jaelece Wasson was another key player, putting up 13 points.

Fernley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in eight consecutive matches.

When it comes to explaining why North Valleys lost, don't look at Ivy Williams. Despite the final result, she almost dropped a double-double with 22 points and nine boards. Williams is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 21 games she's played. Another player making a difference was Annika Hester, who posted 14 points and seven rebounds.

Fernley has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-6 record this season. North Valleys' defeat dropped their record down to 22-5.

Fernley didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 63-31 loss against Churchill County on the 15th. North Valleys does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
