Softball Recap: Brownstown/St. Elmo Comes Up Short

Brownstown/St. Elmo had lost seven straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 1-10 to make it eight. They came up short against the St. Anthony Bulldogs, falling 16-1. The Eagles were not able to make up for their loss to the Bulldogs from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

As for St. Anthony, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games.

For St. Anthony's part, Ava Walton and Ady Rios did most of the damage at the plate: Walton went a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI, two runs, and one double, while Rios went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. With that strong performance, Rios is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. Another player making a difference was Jackie Vonderheide, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Brownstown/St. Elmo will host Christ Our Rock Lutheran at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for St. Anthony, they will welcome Hutsonville/Palestine at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 11.4 runs per game this season.
