Basketball Game Preview: Mount Miguel Matadors vs. Bonita Vista Barons

The Mount Miguel Matadors will take on the Bonita Vista Barons at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Mount Miguel is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They secured a 76-71 W over Clairemont on Tuesday. The team's explosion on offense also rewarded the Matadors with their most commanding win of the season.

Meanwhile, Bonita Vista waltzed into their contest last Saturday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They walked away with a 75-63 win over the Hornets. Given the Barons' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 281st, while the Hornets are ranked 605th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Bonita Vista found their leader in sophomore Jerry Stokes, who went 8 for 12 on his way to 21 points and five assists. The game was Stokes' fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Adam Mitchell, who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds.

Bonita Vista was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Bonita Vista is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.8 points per game. As for Mount Miguel, their victory bumped their record up to 5-6.

Mount Miguel suffered a grim 63-43 defeat to Bonita Vista in their previous meeting two weeks ago. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Stokes, who went 6 of 14 on his way to 21 points.
