Baseball Game Preview: Roxana Shells vs. Wesclin Warriors

Roxana hasn't had much luck against Wesclin recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Shells will be playing in front of their home fans against the Warriors at 4:30 p.m. Roxana is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.9 runs per game this season.

On Tuesday, Roxana earned a 12-8 win over Gillespie. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Shells.

Roxana gave Bradley Herrin the start and clearly made the right call: he struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. Herrin has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Max Autery, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with one home run, five RBI, and one double. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Lyndon Thies, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs.

Centralia hit Wesclin with a five-run fifth inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Warriors wound up with the same score they had in their last game (8-7), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time.

Ayden Peterson was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Wesclin is 4-2 when Peterson posts two or more runs, but 7-12 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Lucas Harriss, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Wesclin's loss dropped their record down to 11-14. As for Roxana, their victory bumped their record up to 17-6.
