Baseball Recap: Burton's Victory on Wednesday Extends Winning Streak to Four

Burton came tearing into Wednesday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victors by a 21-2 margin over the Leadership Griffin. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 17-1 back in March.

Christian Pabalate and Juan Sanchez made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Pabalate pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Sanchez struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Pabalate has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. At the plate, Pabalate went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Sanchez got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and three RBI. Those three RBI gave Sanchez a new career-high.

In other batting news, Ryan Perez Say and Isaac Bautista did most of the damage at the plate: Perez Say got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI, while Bautista went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three runs gave Perez Say a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Roger Solano-Casco, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

Burton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .448. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Burton's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-5. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Leadership, they are on a nine-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Burton will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Griffin: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
