Softball Game Preview: Aurora East Tomcats vs. Westmont Sentinels

The Aurora East Tomcats will venture away from home to square off against the Westmont Sentinels at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Aurora East has struggled recently with 22 defeats in a row, while Westmont will arrive with four straight victories.

Aurora East and West Aurora faced off in a cross-town battle on Tuesday. The Tomcats lost 16-1 to the Blackhawks.

Meanwhile, Westmont made easy work of Cristo Rey Jesuit on Monday and carried off a 24-9 win. Considering the Sentinels have won seven matches by more than 11 runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

The team relied heavily on Gwyneth Jindra, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, ten RBI, and five runs. Those ten RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alice O'Connor, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three stolen bases and five runs.

Westmont always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .651. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .540 or higher in four consecutive games.

Westmont pushed their record up to 9-5 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 20.0 runs over those games. As for Aurora East, their loss dropped their record down to 0-16.

Aurora East suffered a grim 20-12 defeat to Westmont in their previous meeting back in March of 2018. Can the Tomcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
