Baseball Game Preview: Leland Cubs vs. Amanda Elzy Panthers

The Leland Cubs will head out on the road to square off against the Amanda Elzy Panthers at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Leland knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past eight contests -- so hopefully Amanda Elzy likes a good challenge.

On Tuesday, Leland made easy work of West Tallahatchie and carried off a 17-2 win. The Cubs haven't had any issues with the Choctaws recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.

Leland got a massive performance out of Kevandre Rawls, who scored three runs and stole six bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Rawls is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last six games he's played dating back to last season. TeQuezian Jackson was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing seven bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

Leland was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.

Meanwhile, Amanda Elzy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They came up short against Winona, falling 18-3. That's two games in a row now that the Panthers have lost by exactly 15 runs.

Leland pushed their record up to 7-5 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.2 runs over those games. As for Amanda Elzy, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-6.
