Baseball Recap: Antioch Christian Academy's Victory on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Antioch Christian Academy entered their tilt with Mintz Christian Academy on Thursday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They blew past the Lions 7-1. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Josiah Jones made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 16 over 6.2 innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one hit in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with seven stolen bases and one run. Antioch Christian Academy is undefeated when Jones posts two or more stolen bases, but 0-3 otherwise.

Jones wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Carson Phillips, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Phillips is becoming a predictor of Antioch Christian Academy's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 0-3 when he doesn't). Another was Bailee Hardee, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.

Antioch Christian Academy's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-3. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 2-5 Liberty Christian Academy and 2-4 Sandhills Classical Christian (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 39.7% over those games). As for Mintz Christian Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 4-3.

Antioch Christian Academy and Mintz Christian Academy will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next matchups. The next time the Gators see the field they'll take on Sandhills Classical Christian at 4:00 p.m. on May 5. As for Mintz Christian Academy, their break will end when they face Liberty Christian Academy at 4:00 p.m. on the 28th.
