The Firebaugh Eagles will face off against the Madera South Stallions at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Having struggled with four losses in a row, Firebaugh turned things around against Strathmore on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 win over the Spartans. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Eagles have posted since May 2, 2025.
Firebaugh saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Eli Miller, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That double marked the first that Miller has hit this season. Jose Figueroa was another, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Madera South). They put the hurt on Tranquillity with a sharp 26-1 win on Monday. With that victory, the Stallions brought their scoring average up to 8.8 runs per game.
Jayden Castaneda made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Castaneda was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Josiah Ortiz was incredible, getting on base in five of his six plate appearances with six RBI, three runs, and two doubles. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in hits (three). Another player making a difference was Angel Duenas, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, four RBI, and one double.
Madera South was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .559. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
The win got Madera South back to even at 3-3. As for Firebaugh, their victory bumped their record up to 2-5.
Everything went Firebaugh's way against Madera South in their previous meeting back in March of 2025, as Firebaugh made off with a 14-3 win. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Stallions turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
