4A Region 2 recap Nov. 7, 2012
New Albany extended the longest winning streak in 4A Region 2 this week by beating Gentry, 34-0. This was the team's sixth consecutive win.
New Albany took down the Rams 34-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Boston Newsome ran for 160 yards in the win.
North Pontotoc's dynamic duo of Trey Jolly and Marcus Green proved tough for Yazoo County to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Jolly threw for 152 yards and two touchdowns and Green had 88 yards receiving. Murphy Daniel helped North Pontotoc's passing attack out by catching three balls for 37 yards.
Brandon Mack provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Lafayette bested Greenwood. He completed four passes for 63 yards and one touchdown and also ran for 200 yards. Mack's favorite target this week was DK Buford, who caught three passes for 57 yards.
The Vikings' Jolly and Green have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Jolly has thrown for 2471 yards this season, while Green, a 5-foot-9 receiver, has 53 catches for 994 yards. Newsome from Ron Price's team leads the league in rushing with 1913 yards.
Mack of the the Commodores is only 68 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 175 carries Mack has accumulated 932 yard this year.
Lewisburg and Cleveland played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Lewisburg eventually emerging with a 28-23 victory.
