Baseball Recap: Springville Extends Home Winning Streak to 21

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Springville). Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Center Point Eagles a 16-0 shutout on Thursday. Winning may never get old, but the Tigers sure are getting used to it with their seventh in a row.

Jacob Bailey and Cade Gleason made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Bailey tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Gleason tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four). At the plate, Bailey scored a run while going 2-for-3, while Gleason scored a run while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sean Nichols, who scored two runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Alex Holland was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Springville hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least three batters in seven consecutive contests.

Springville pushed their record up to 21-3 with the victory, which was their 21st straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Center Point, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-3.

Looking ahead, Springville will take on Lewis County at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Center Point, they will venture away from home to square off against Bessemer City at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
