Sam Houston had already won ten in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 25 points) and they went ahead and made it 11 on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Burbank Bulldogs 61-59. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Hurricanes have posted since November 22nd.

Sam Houston got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Brenna Davis out in front who posted 20 points. Those 20 points gave Davis a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Bre'Yanna Murray, who put up 15 points.

Several Bulldogs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Makayla Carter, who earned 12 points along with five assists and five boards. Carter has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last nine times she's played. Another player making a difference was Nyila Botello, who had 19 points and seven rebounds.

Sam Houston pushed their record up to 20-4 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.6 points per game. As for Burbank, with the defeat, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 11-11.

Sam Houston and Burbank should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. Sam Houston (ranked 158th) will meet Brackenridge (ranked 696th) at 10:00 a.m. on December 28th. Similarly, Burbank (ranked 417th) will meet Fox Tech (ranked 1221st) at 11:30 a.m. on December 28th.
