Football Recap: First Assembly Christian Crusaders vs. Jackson Christian Eagles
First Assembly Christian extended their losing streak to seven on Friday, dropping them down to 1-8. They came up short against the Jackson Christian Eagles, falling 38-13. While losing is never fun, the Crusaders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee football rankings (they are ranked 297th, while the Eagles are ranked 93rd).
First Assembly Christian's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was JJ Davis, who picked up 63 receiving yards and two scores.
First Assembly Christian didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Davis.
As for Jackson Christian, their win was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-1. The road victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 9.0 points on average over those games.
Jay Pirtle had a dynamite game, rushing for 140 yards and a pair of TDs on only 11 carries. Those 140 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Carlos Roberson, who picked up 98 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
