Volleyball Game Preview: East Duplin Panthers vs. Uwharrie Charter Academy Eagles

The East Duplin Panthers will square off against the Uwharrie Charter Academy Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with East Duplin sitting on 15 straight victories and Uwharrie Charter Academy on 22.

It was a proper cat-fight when East Duplin duked it out with Carrboro on Thursday. The Panthers walked away with a 3-1 win over the Jaguars.

The victory didn't come easy: Carrboro scored at least 21 points in every set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-22, 22-25, 25-21, 25-21.

East Duplin can attribute much of their success to Lauren Cottle, who had 11 digs and 11 assists. Those 11 digs gave Cottle a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Jones, who had five kills and three blocks.

East Duplin was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 16 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least 12 aces in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Uwharrie Charter Academy got the win against Ledford on Thursday by a conclusive 3-0.

Not only was the match a shutout, it was a big one: Uwharrie Charter Academy took every set by at least 11 points. The final score came out to 25-13, 25-14, 25-9.

East Duplin's record is now 22-2. As for Uwharrie Charter Academy, their record now sits at 26-3.
