Baseball Game Preview: Century Panthers vs. Owatonna Huskies

The Century Panthers will face off against the Owatonna Huskies at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Century will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.

Century took a nine-run defeat the last time they faced off against Mankato West, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Panthers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-7 victory over the Scarlets on Thursday. The game was the first time the Panthers have beaten the Scarlets on their field since May 9, 2019.

The team relied heavily on Owen Kelly, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and one triple. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. Brady Buchmann also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Century kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Owatonna came out on top against St. Paul Central on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run first inning. The Huskies' pitchers stepped up to hand the Minutemen a 10-0 shutout. Considering the Huskies have won four contests by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Century pushed their record up to 7-5 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Owatonna, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-2.

Century couldn't quite get it done against Owatonna when the teams last played back in April as they fell 8-5. Can the Panthers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
