Baseball Recap: Valley Center Has No Trouble Against Andover

Valley Center won the last time they faced Andover and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Hornets put the hurt on the Trojans with a sharp 8-2 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Hornets.

Doc Needham spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on six hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Valley Center is 2-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 3-4 otherwise.

At the plate, Braden Heitsman and Austin Saner did most of the damage at the plate: Heitsman scored two runs while going 2-for-2, while Saner scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Those stolen bases marked the first that Saner snagged this season. Another player making a difference was Gavin Saner, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

The victory got Valley Center back to even at 5-5. As for Andover, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-5.

Looking ahead, Valley Center will venture away from home to challenge Hutchinson on Friday. The Salthawks will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last. As for Andover, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Circle on Thursday. The Thunderbirds' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so the Trojans' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
