Capuchino and Hillsdale are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2018, but likely not for long. The Mustangs are taking a road trip to face off against the Fighting Knights at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Capuchino 4.1, Hillsdale 4.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Capuchino barely beat Carlmont the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Mustangs' pitcher stepped up to hand the Scots a 7-0 shutout on Thursday. The Mustangs not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 1st (when they won 19-1).
The result came thanks to Declan Mendel's shutout, as he gave up just four hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Andres Gomez was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Capuchino is 7-1 when Gomez posts two or more runs, but 6-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Cameron Chin, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Capuchino kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are 7-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Hillsdale suffered their closest loss since March 15, 2024 on Friday. They fell just short of Sacred Heart Prep by a score of 4-2. Fighting Knights fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Gators since on Friday.
Robert Gilbert was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits.
Capuchino is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 13-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Hillsdale, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-8.
Hillsdale's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Capuchino has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .437. It's a different story for Hillsdale, though, as they've only averaged .363. Will they be able to contain Capuchino's hitters?
Capuchino might still be hurting after the 10-3 loss they got from Hillsdale in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
