After a string of three wins, Carterville's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell 5-1 to the Nashville Hornets. The Lions were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hornets apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2023.
Aidan Swallers put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in nine consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one run. That triple was his first of the season.
Swallers wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Camden Wright, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one double. Alex Kimbrough also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Carterville's defeat dropped their record down to 13-8. As for Nashville, they pushed their record up to 20-1 with the win, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Carterville will challenge Anna-Jonesboro at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Nashville, they will welcome Roxana at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Hornets 2.1, the Shells 3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
