Softball Recap: Saint James Makes It 13 in a Row at Home

Saint James waltzed into their game on Saturday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They walked away with an 11-6 victory over the Westminster Owls.

Lily Schlotterbeck ?26 made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 14 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tenley Mullendore ?27, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with five stolen bases and four runs. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Everett Sechler ?26, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.

Saint James kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive contests.

Saint James' win was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Westminster, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-9.

Coming up, Saint James will head out to take on Foxcroft at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Westminster, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against South River at 4:30 p.m. The Owls' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Seahawks have averaged an impressive 7.9 runs per game this season.
