Preview: Portville Panthers vs. Frewsburg Bears
Portville and the Bears are an even 3-3 against one another since January of 2022, but not for long. The Portville Panthers will head out on the road to take on the Frewsburg Bears at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Portville has struggled recently with three defeats in a row, while the Bears will arrive with 11 straight wins.
Portville lost a heartbreaker when they last took the court, but unfortunately for them the defeat they were handed on on Monday was a bit more commanding. Their tough 56-31 loss to Randolph might stick with them for a while. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Portville has scored all season.
Meanwhile, Frewsburg can now show off 11 landslide victories after their most recent matchup on Monday. They really took it to Falconer for the full four quarters, racking up a 74-25 win on the road. Given Frewsburg's advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 56th, while the Golden Falcons are ranked 462nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Frewsburg relied on the efforts of Jadyn Trocki, who scored 21 points along with six steals and five assists, and Teghan Trocki, who scored 29 points along with six steals and five assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Trocki has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Paige Whippo, who scored four points along with two steals and two blocks.
Portville's defeat dropped their record down to 7-3. As for Frewsburg, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-2.
Portville couldn't quite finish off the Bears in their previous matchup back in January and fell 55-52. Can Portville avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
