Softball Recap: Hampton Bays Baymen vs. Kings Park Kingsmen
Hampton Bays extended their losing streak to six on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 2-13 in the process. They came up short against the Kings Park Kingsmen, falling 11-0. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Kingsmen this season, with their most recent loss being a 5-3 defeat back in April.
Emma Grunewald spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and six unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up seven Ks.
As for Kings Park, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games.
On Kings Park's side, not much got past Amanda Van Schuyler, who gave up just a hit and racked up nine Ks to keep Hampton Bays off the board.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Madeleine Cooper, who went 4-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Courtney McKenna, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
