Baseball Recap: Salem Gets the Win

Salem won against Amite County on Tuesday with 15 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. The Wildcats didn't even let the Hazlehurst Indians on the board, marking the Wildcats' second-straight 15-0 shutout. That's more bragging rights for the Wildcats, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Keaton Roberts made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Roberts was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Rustyn Boydd, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Shannan Ratliff was another key player, going 1-for-2 with three RBI and two runs.

The win got Salem back to even at 2-2. As for Hazlehurst, their loss was their 18th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-3.

Looking ahead, Salem will welcome East Marion at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Hazlehurst, they will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on Jim Hill at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
