Softball Recap: Leyden Takes a Loss

Leyden extended their losing streak to four on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 9-12 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-3 heartbreaker at the hands of the Glenbard North Panthers. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Eagles have suffered since April 19th.

Elise Bertsche made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

As for Glenbard North, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 15-4. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games.

On Glenbard North's side, Gina Brown spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks. Brown has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Glenbard North let Alyssa Abderhalden and Tru Medina run wild. Abderhalden went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI, while Medina went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That's the most RBI Abderhalden has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Lauren Kozlovsky, who went 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Leyden will take on Huntley in a tournament on Saturday. The Red Raiders' pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so the Eagles' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Glenbard North, they will welcome Geneva at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
