After both having extra time off, the Coventry Comets and the Buckeye Bucks will shake off the cobwebs and challenge one another at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
Last Thursday, Coventry didn't have quite enough to beat Norton and fell 3-2. The Comets have struggled against the Panthers recently, as their game on Thursday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Coventry took Norton into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking eight-point loss. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-18, 25-14, 21-25, 24-26, 15-7.
Despite the loss, Coventry had strong showings from Kayla Kantorowski, who had 28 digs, and Ava Burkhart, who had 11 digs and eight aces. Kantorowski is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 13 or more in the last 13 games she's played dating back to last season.
Even though they lost, Coventry was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 11 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in six consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Buckeye entered their tilt with Normandy on Saturday with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. They walked away with a 3-1 win over the Invaders.
The match finished with set scores of 25-16, 18-25, 25-18, 25-22.
Maria Swank was the offensive standout of the matchup as she had 11 digs and two aces.
Coventry's defeat dropped their record down to 11-11. As for Buckeye, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-8.
